K3USI Gilligan’s VA042L & Hog Pen VA043L
K3USI Mid-Atlantic Island Crew Gilligan’s Island, VA042L Hog Pen Island, VA043L Kerr Reservoir
AE4MK operator, 21 April 2007
Kerr Res. was 5.5 feet high, but the Wx couldn’t have been better .
The Canadian Mother goose, upper left, scared the ##!! out of me. I was on the island for 10 minutes before she hissed at me. Oh, yes, I forgot my vertical in the car so I just attached a 40 meter ground radial to the SGC-231 tuner, attached a rock and threw it into the tree.
Don’t mess with Mother Goose.
My VA042L operating position. It took two hours to get 32 QSOs from Canada and the U.S.
Note all the flooded trees.
Crossing over to Hog Pen Island, VA043L.
My Hog Pen, VA043L operating position. Only got 26 QSOs in 90 minutes. I did work Canada, Germany and England.
Gilligan’s Island from Hog Pen
After dinner I decided to just take a paddle and leave the radio behind. Thank you for all the support and patience with the poor conditions.
